What is the event about?
Everyone loved the lanterns so much last year, it enhanced the city of Lancaster with the decorations that represent Chinese culture.
Hanging lanterns during Chinese New Year is a tradition rooted in ancient Chinese culture and symbolism. Lanterns are often associated with bringing light and good fortune, symbolisng the hope for a bright and prosperous year ahead. The red color of the lanterns represents happiness and vitality. Some Chinese New Year stories also mentioned that the lanterns frighten away the Nian monster, which, according to legend, is a fierce beast with sharp teeth and horns that would eat both animals and people.
The Lancaster Chinese New Year Lanterns and Banners Hanging Period for 2025 will take place from January 6th to February 7th. During this time, the city will be adorned with vibrant lanterns and festive banners, creating a lively and culturally rich atmosphere to celebrate the Lunar New Year. This period highlights Lancaster's commitment to honoring cultural traditions and bringing the community together in celebration.
By hanging the lanterns in Lancaster we wish everyone in the city will be good luck, stay healthy, and remind everyone to the reunion with friends and family in the new year.
There will be more than 600 Chinese Lanterns hanging over the Lancaster city center! The hanging period is between 6th January and 7th February 2025. It will be the fourth time Chinese lanterns hanging around the city. We hope everyone enjoys it!
